Everyone loves music! Music in the classroom is a great way to get your children engaged. Children have a lot of energy, sometimes they do not even know what to do with half of it. Some teachers are incorporating music in their classrooms to let children dance their energy out. Not only is this a great way to tire out the little ones, but another great way to learn a lesson. The amount of times people have asked me "how can you remember an entire song, but not remember anything when studying?" is astonishing. I always responded "well music is way more fun than studying." I know that sounds terrible...but what if we incorporated music into our learning environment? This could make our students remember the material better. Studying may end up being surprisingly fun.

Jacqi, I agree with your whole post 100%! I think districts should start incorporating music into their everyday classroom needs. I am the exact same way. I can retain everything about a song, but come time to remember what that history class was all about, forget it. Having something that is engaging the students and having them enjoy it, is more beneficial than having them sit there and take notes for an hour or so.
ReplyDeleteGreat post Jacqi! :)
That's an awesome idea. I think music should be in all classrooms. In high school, my English teacher would do yoga with us at the beginning of the class. It got us all concentrated and was a great way to start the day!
ReplyDeleteJacqi, I completely agree with you! I remember quick dance breaks in my first grade classroom that everyone loved! It got out all our energy so we were able to focus on the next activity. My third grade teacher used to play this slow Josh Groban CD while worked independently. It was so soothing and relaxing. It also conditioned us in a way! After she put in the CD, we knew it was quiet time and unacceptable to talk or be loud anymore. Music in the classroom is an awesome idea!!! Thanks for sharing
